Spreading the News Post-Closing: Alerting the Media

Another step to take post-closing is to alert the media.

Public Releases of Information

Following the close of the deal, the sale can become public information. Usually the buyer or M&A intermediary controls the news releases posy-closing. Often, the purchase agreement may define who will be in control of releasing the information, and how the information will be released to the media.

Even though the deal might be closed, it is important to refer back to the confidentiality agreement as well. Look for any confidentiality clauses that may prohibit you from speaking about the deal. If you are uncertain of what to say about the deal, refer to your lawyer or M&A intermediary for assistance. Publicly announcing a merger or acquisition can be a great way for the new company to garner some free publicity.
