Divorce
80% or more of our appraisal work is typically centered around a motion for dissolution of marriage/divorce. This goes to the issue of the marital estate, is being broken apart and one of the parties in that marital estate owns equity in a business enterprise. We’re called in by either one of those principles or by counsel. Many times the parties will stipulate to using George & Company for both sides because we are recognized as experts, rather than have two experts get up and argue about valuation that should come in fairly close.
If George & Company represents one side or the other careful attention is given to the fact that we do not advocate the interest of our client. Our job is to provide an un-biased opinion of the whole or fractional value of the company to be appraised. Our advocacy is strictly to our opinion of value. We do not concentrate on representing husbands or wives and neither do we owe any allegiance to any attorney who may engage our services regularly. George & Company has provided litigation support by means of expert testimony in most Probate courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
